“If You Want to Be A Successful Designer You Have to Believe in Something”

The last guest of the Office Talks with Tuna is the founder of Avcı Architects, Selçuk Avcı.

Selçuk Avcı was the guest of ninth episode of the series "Office Talks with Tuna" which is broadcasting on Arkitera's YouTube channel.  The other guests of the interview, moderated by Cemal Çobanoğlu, are Hatice Engür and Ozan Sinan Tığlıoğlu from Tuna Office.

How Avcı Architects was founded?

When Cemal Çobanoğlu asked how Avcı Architects was founded, Selçuk Avcı briefly explained the story of the office, which was founded in London and then reached to Istanbul, as follows:

“The first office was opened in London in 1989. It was born out of my impatience on doing my own job. Now, if I looked back, I'd wait a little. In 2000s, I slowly started to return to Turkey and spend some time here. When I realized that the economy of Turkey is developing generally, my interest has increased more. I was a little more excited by the increase in the value given to the design and the fact that this word began to enter our lives.”

He told the story of Circle, the place where the interview was held, as follows:

“We have been organizing exhibitions and events for a long time as part of the office, but our location was not appropriate. We had a dream to have a place where we can properly make an exhibition. At the same time, we decided to change our way of working and work in a more diverse environment. That is why Circle, an event center focused on architecture and is also a workplace.”
